Feast bowl

Unrecorded Woodlands artist First Nations

Not on view

Two exquisitely carved spirit effigies preside over this feast bowl. Rendered with a high degree of naturalism, they represent a male and a female with black hair and eyes, slender necks, and small squared shoulders. The male has a warrior’s roached haircut and the female wears her hair in a “clubbed” fashion: wrapped in silk ribbon and then adorned with a silver hair plate. An edged rim highlighted in black pigment connects the two beings.
