Not on view

Lu Xun (1881–1936), a leftist writer and critic, was considered by many to be the patriarch of modern Chinese literature. His writings, avidly championed by the Communist regime after 1949, exerted a substantial influence throughout the twentieth century.

Lu Xun was also a major force behind the Modern Woodcut Movement in China in the early 1930s, which advocated pictorial prints as the ideal medium to express the need for social and political changes. This print commemorates Lu Xun and his influential publications. The flame imagery symbolizes his revolutionary zeal.
