Sword Guard (Tsuba)

Fittings maker Yamada Genshō Japanese

Not on view

This is a distinctive example of a Japanese sword guard decorated in a Chinese style. It is important for documentary purposes because it is very unusual to find sword guards of this type inscribed with the name of a Japanese craftsman and the city where he worked.
