Suit

Attributed to Madame Grès (Germaine Émilie Krebs) French

Not on view

Grès employs double-faced wool like a reversible shell. The joinings are finished in a clean welt with no seam allowance because the two faces of the fabric are split open and stitched together to a self-finished edge. The unseen interior is as beautifully finished as the exterior: other than the placement of the label, the suit could literally be reversed.
