Fan

Department Store B. Altman & Co. American

Not on view

In the early 20th century, fans diminished in size and took on aspects of design and decoration found of those from the early 19th century. A good example, the outstanding design feature of this fan is the overall sequinning which is very effectively arranged in graduated density following the form of the fan leaf as it gets larger. The fan box is original and informs us of its origins. At this time B. Altman & Co. was importing fine goods from France, and it is most likely that this fan is French made.
