Bowl

Venezia-Murano Company Italian

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 554

This ribbed bowl was made by fusing cross-sections of glass cane (murrine) into a sheet and forming it with a mold, a revived ancient technique called mosaic glass. Seven tiny faces surround a tulip-like flower at the center of each of the twenty-nine murrine.
