This tureen was part of a large dinner service delivered in 1758 to the Danish king Frederik V as a gift of Louis XV. This was the first service to be produced with the newly-developed green ground color, and it must have been regarded as an extremely fashionable and lavish gift. Diplomatic correspondence indicates that the French king's gift was in response to gift of stallions from Frederik V.
