Terracotta lekythos (oil flask)

Attributed to a painter of Group R

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 159

Woman seated at a tomb between youth and woman

White-ground lekythoi attributed to Group R show great fluency in execution and bold application of color. This example well illustrates the new integration of masterfully controlled drawing of details of the eyes, hair, and drapery and the flat, broad application of red and black pigment.
