Close Helmet

This helmet is a forgery, most likely made in the early to mid-19th century. Its embossed decoration emulates Italian or French Mannerist ornament of the mid-16th century and was probably carried out by a professional artist trained in steel chiseling techniques. The form and construction of the helmet itself, however, betrays a sufficient lack of familiarity with 16th century examples.
