Piartal

Not on view

Two distinct Precolumbian gold-working styles existed, apparently contemporaneously, in the highlands of the modern department of Narino in southern Colombia. Once is called Capuli, the other Piartal, named for the people who have inhabited the area since the eighth century. While Capuli-style goldwork shares many technological and formal features with other metalworkng traditions in the southwest, Piartal works are not related to any other styles.
