Fragment of a statue of Ramesses II

New Kingdom, Ramesside

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 122

Part of a divine standard, this fragment belongs with a temple statue of Ramesses II (42.2.1). Visible on the shaft is part of an inscription stating that the king is dedicating a "cult object" to "his father," the god Amun-Re. See 65.114 for a complete example of this type of statue, in this case belonging to a non-royal person.
