Plate with Jacob Is Shown Joseph’s Coat

Probably painted by Gironimo Tomasi Italian
Based on a woodcut by Bernard Salomon French

Not on view

The scene is based on a woodcut in an illustrated Bible published in Lyons in 1553 and republished in Italian in 1554. Similar work was done in Urbino, Pesaro, and Lyons itself. The more meager quality of the tin glaze suggests Venice as the probably place of manufacture of this example.

Plate with Jacob Is Shown Joseph’s Coat, Probably painted by Gironimo Tomasi (Italian, active Urbino, Albisola, and Lyons, died 1602), Maiolica (tin-glazed earthenware), Italian, probably Urbino
