Bronze thymiaterion (incense burner)

Cypriot

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

This example represents the typical Cypriot form of incense burner, attested in terracotta as well as bronze. The shape was known in Cyprus during the Late Bronze Age and was evidently reintroduced during the Archaic period by the Phoenicians.
