Bronze handle of a patera

Greek, South Italian or Etruscan

Not on view

Bronze shallow bowls, or paterae, with figural handles were produced in Greece as well as southern Italy in the late 6th through the middle of the fifth century B.C. and were used for offerings and libations. This finely worked handle takes the form of a nude youth with two rams and a ram’s head as part of the attachment to the patera.
