Mvet

Peruvian (Afro-Peruvian)

Not on view

When this African instrument was acquired shortly before 1900 it generated much discussion among musical instrument scholars and anthropologists of the day. It was recognized that African influences were found in coastal areas where plantations were established but to find a West African instrument so far in the American interior was exceptional.
