Guests at a Banquet

Twentieth Century; original New Kingdom

Nina de Garis Davies

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 135

During various celebrations, family and friends gathered to eat and drink. Such banquets are depicted on tomb walls, though the exact occasions are often unknown. The facsimile here shows part of a large banquet with several male and female guests. They are depicted with fine clothing and elaborate jewelry, and in a state of eternal youth. (Note that this is the left part of a large banquet scene; for the right part see 30.4.106.)
