Towel with the Family Crest of Ichikawa Danjūrō

Japan

Not on view

Danjūrō's family crest of three nested squares is boldly cropped in half on this towel. Two characters in a gourd-shaped seal at the lower left can also be read as mimasu (three nested squares). This was probably a Danjūrō memento for enthusiastic patrons and fans.
