Dragons chasing flaming pearls

Known as nasij (Arabic, meaning “cloth of gold”), this sumptuous silk features patterns in gold thread woven into a foundation of solid-colored silk thread, a type of textile that Mongol royals used for their robes when they ruled China during the Yuan dynasty. While weaving with gold thread points to the influence of Central Asian techniques, the motif of a dragon chasing a flaming pearl is uniquely Chinese.
