Dish with devil's head design

Manufactory Emile Muller and Co. French

Not on view

An atypical subject in European decorative arts, the charming devil featured on this stoneware dish points to a fascination with the Occult that emerged in Europe at the end of the nineteenth century and the experimental designs made by Emile Müller at his commercial factory in Ivry, which became a center of Art Nouveau stoneware production in France.
