Technical analysis: Ultraviolet-induced visible luminescence examination


This cylindrical marble beaker is complete except for mended losses at the rim and lugs. It carved from a slightly variegated, light grayish marble. Two long vertical, fin-shaped lugs on either side of the vessel are perforated for suspension, although it is unusual that the top half of one lug is pierced twice. The base is slightly rounded and the interior is smooth except for a low central boss at the bottom.(1)
