Untitled

Giorgio Cavallon American, born Italy

Not on view

Cavallon was a student of Hans Hofmann, whose emphasis on color and geometric structure is evident here. But whereas Hofmann used strongly colored, opaque paints, Cavallon used scraping and glazes to create luminosity. Cavallon was a founding member of the American Abstract Artists group and The Club, and maintained friendships with most of the Abstract Expressionists. Although his public reputation never developed, his work was always well-regarded by his colleagues.
