The Meadows
This tonal landscape with its simplified composition and attention to mood is an early example of Lathrop's work in oil, a medium he adopted in the late 1890s after a long career as an etcher and watercolorist. Like most of his paintings, it was probably executed from memory rather than nature. This has also been called "The Lonely Pasture."
