Candlestick

ca. 1920s
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774
This candlestick is a reproduction of dolphin-shaped, opaque, pressed glass candlesticks made in Sandwich, Massachusetts during the nineteenth century. Produced in Czechoslovakia, a Boston department store sold this candlestick and its mate. The candlesticks were not originally produced or sold as antique objects but as merchandise which took advantage of the popularity of colonial style artifacts in the 1920s.
