The Ark

ca. 1700
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 718
Executed in Amsterdam, this painting has a long history of ownership in New York. Samuel Verplanck (1739–1820) may have purchased it while in Amsterdam for his wedding to Judith Crommelin in 1761. Furnishings from the couple’s New York town house are displayed in a period room in The American Wing (gallery 718).
