Candlestick

1670–1700
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774
This candlestick forms a pair with 1971.180.69. It was cast in three pieces: the drip pan, the base, and the upper shaft. Although currently dated to the late seventeenth century, there has been speculation recently that these pieces may be may indeed be modern, as the method of casting and the treatment of the brass underneath the foot differs from other pieces dating from that period.
