Dress
On loan to The Met
This work of art is currently on loan to the museum. In the sumptuous world of haute couture in the mid- to late-1930s, this dress is a tour-de-force demonstration of minimalism. Positively Spartan, it stresses structure, reduces devices of decoration and eliminates extraneous elements. Shaping and ornament is achieved through shirring and seaming.
