Diana, Roman goddess of wild animals and the hunt, is popularly depicted in western art with a hound or a deer and holding a bow and arrow. Here, she bears a tall spear with a hound at her side. Based on a European print the work can be attributed to the Isfahan painter ‘Ali Quli Jabbadar whose distinctive palette and stippled brushwork is seen.
