Covered Potpourri Jar

Ott and Brewer American

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 743

The potpourri jar incorporated an eclectic mix of stylistic references typical of the period in which it was made. The cover is pierced and decorated in gold in an Islamic pattern; the sponged gold clouds and applied lotus blossoms are Japanesque.
