Evening dress

ca. 1918
Not on view
The narrow line of this evening dress is relieved by the graceful drapery of the skirt. It was featured in the 1972 Brooklyn Museum exhibit, "Changing Fashions, 1800-1970," where it was suggested that that design could be seen as a confluence of the hobble skirt silhouette and Greek chiton. The dress, with its transitional shape, is a rare example of the period.
