Dress

Designer Marimekko Finnish

Not on view

This simple A-line dress was made by Marimekko, Inc., a well-known Finnish textile manufacturer established in 1951 by Armi and Viljo Ratia. The company was known for their colorful, geometric prints which they began to use for simple, comfortable clothes as well as for interiors. The dress is an example of the typical work being produced, marketed and sold. The comfortable cotton was very different from the many synthetic fabrics so popular during the 1960s. The company continues to produce patterns and looks such as this, continuing the design ideas the business was founded upon.
