Cartoon for lampshade

1902–10
Not on view
This watercolor drawing shows the delicate whites, greens, and blues that make up the “Snowball” shade. As the lamp would ultimately have a domed shape, the design of the glass at the top of the drawing opens up to accommodate the curvature of the shade. The luminous, translucent quality of the watercolor medium produces an effect very similar to that of light shining through glass.
