This covered tureen and tray belonged to a set of pewter made for the Coronation Banquet of George IV.
Inscription: On lid below handle attachment plate, and on side of tureen: GR (in script), IV (between), crowned; impressed on lid: 8; on tureen below one handle: 16

On tray, engraved on rim: G R (in script), IV (between, crowned)

Marking: [1] THOMAS / A... (rest of mark indistinct) (maker's mark);
[2] LONDON / SUPERFINE in reserve (the word "London" largely obliterated).
