Covered Figural Dish

ca. 1887–90
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774
Although this duck-shaped dish has no mark, identical pieces have been found marked with a patent date of March 15, 1887, the date on which Patent No. 17192 was granted to T. B. Atterbury for this design. This dish has been extensively and cleverly reproduced in the twentieth century. The present example came into the collection of Emily Winthrop Miles before the design was reproduced. This dish is identical in form, though not in color, to another in the collection, 46.140.282.
