Terracotta neck-amphora

Attributed to the Red-Line Painter

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Obverse, man seizing woman at a fountain house
Reverse, Dionysos on donkey and maenad

While Dionysos is riding along peaceably on the reverse, his influence has extended to the situation on the obverse. Dressed in boots and a garment wrapped around his lower body, the man seems to be an artisan or laborer.
