Bronze oinochoe (jug)

Etruscan

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 170

The body of this small jug is ornamented with meticulously incised tongue patterns that flank a delicate cable frieze. On the base of the handle is the head of a lion's skin, which may allude to the pelt worn by Herakles.
