Terracotta basket

8th century BCE
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 151
This work informs us about objects of perishable materials that have not survived. The basket originally would have had a crosspiece and a high handle, which helps clarify specific features of the shape, such as the incurving upper edge and the bowing of the walls.
