Terracotta lekane (dish)

Greek, Boeotian

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 171

Interior, lion
Exterior, lotus chain

The lekane is a specifically Boeotian shape. The small tondo on the interior, often with a figural subject, reflects Attic influence. The treatment of the exterior is a local development.
