Flintlock Pocket Pistol with Bullet Mould and Case

Gunsmith Nicolas Noël Boutet French

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 375

The small size, streamlined sides, and folding trigger enabled a pistol such as this to be carried comfortably in a gentleman’s pocket. The designs finely engraved in the steel and inlaid in silver on the wood are derived from French pattern books of the middle to late eighteenth century.
