Curtain Knob

1840–60
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774
While information as to exact date and place of manufacture is lacking, curtain knobs or tiebacks like this one have been found largely in New England houses, leading to the supposition that they were probably manufactured locally in the years around the mid-nineteenth century. The twenty knobs in this set are all pressed in a similar design, varying with respect to coloration and size.

(See 10.125.645–.664 for entire set and 12.48.10 and .11 for related pair.)
