In 1867, after twenty-two years of employment as factory superintendent of the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company, William E. Kern received a retirement gift of more than fifty pieces of glassware including this decanter. (See 67.7.1–.14, .16, .24, .25, .27–.44 for the set of matching glassware.)
