Royal head with diadem and Nubian wig

This fragment belongs to a statue representing the king in a short wig and the seshed headdress. Its headband and streamers are tied in a bow of lotus blossoms at the back in a pattern that dates back to the Old Kingdom, where it appears in representations of boatmen. However, its so-called Nubian wig dates it to the New Kingdom. Its size and unusual facial features suggest it was the product of a provincial workshop.
