Head of a Woman

Third Intermediate Period–Late Period

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 130

The hairstyle worn by this small female figure brings to mind the short round hairstyle that was in fashion for women during the Late Period, although in a plainer and more voluminous manner. The material used to create this figure could be Egyptian faience, a ceramic-like material usually covered with a colored glaze, although only further examination will determine its exact nature.
