This six story building occupied an entire block on Fifth Avenue at Madison square, operating between 1859 and 1908, when it was demolished. In this busy scene carriages are shown parked in front and the street filled with figures, commercial activity and carriages. In the foreground, a British coldstream guard talks to two American soldiers. Text below notes that the hotel was owned and operated by Hitchcock, Darley & Co.
