Stool

China

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 218

While usually used around the house, these stools doubled as seats on litter-bearer platforms. Holes drilled into the legs enabled them to be attached to the platform; the person sitting on the stool steadied himself by resting his heels on the bottom rung and grasping the sides of the seat.
