Textile Fragment
Not on view
This silk lampas fragment is decorated with a repeating design of turbaned figures carrying animals. Men in the top row, accompanied by falcons perched on their left arms, hold dead ducks by their tails, while the figures below cradle gazelles in both arms. In the full textile, these rows would have continued to alternate, forming a staggered repeating pattern completed by the partridges, flying ducks, and flowered vines that fill the gaps between figures. The figural decoration of this garment or home furnishing provides a glimpse into the hunting practices and fashions of Safavid Iran.
