Amulet with a Military Saint

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 300

A military saint holding a cross-topped spear in one hand and a shield in the other stabs a snake. This image is closely related to another popular image known as the Holy Rider in which a mounted horseman kills a foe. These images evoked power and the triumph of good over evil.
