Container

early 13th century
Not on view
This unusual Seljuq metal object seems to be related in function to a large group of unglazed pottery vessels that were used for storing and dispensing precious liquids, three of which are exhibited in Gallery 2. The Arabic inscriptions in kufic and naskhi scripts on the neck, breast and tail of this container identify and bestow good wishes upon S.afi ibn Bakr bin H.usain Karam, possibly the patron or the creator of this container.
