Tiraz Fragment with Inscription
Not on view
This fragment was produced in a Tulunid workshop of the Nile Delta. Like Coptic textiles, it is tapestry‑woven. The play of light and shade and the contrast between the negative and positive spaces reflect the Abbasid Beveled style of carving architectural ornament, while the palette of undyed linen—olive green, brown, and blue—is characteristically Tulunid. The linen consists of fragmentary Arabic letters in kufic script that are undecipherable.
