Tiraz Textile Fragment

Not on view

Tiraz is a term derived from Persian meaning embroidery. Tiraz textile bands present a line of Arabic inscription on the upper sleeves of a robe or on a turban. They were part of an official Islamic custom, the khila' ceremony, in which robes of honor were presented to a deserving subject by the caliph.
