Landscape
Kushiro Unsen Japanese
Not on view
Unzen, a Nanga artist, trained in Nagasaki with Chinese painters who were passing through the port city. Known as an eccentric and solitary figure, he traveled widely in pursuit of artistic influences and was purportedly fond of drink. In this sketchy autumn landscape, a single figure boats up a river overlooked by half-hidden mountain cottages.
